While jamming with Aspiration recently, we sang “Ghost Riders in the Sky”. This time, the words “Ghost Writers” came to mind as a possible parody. The next day i had a first draft of this song, and finished polishing it over the weekend.
With parodies, i sometimes write basically an unrelated set of lyrics set to the melody of the song that inspired them (which isn’t really a parody), or i write lyrics of a true parody that parallel the target song pretty closely. This is an example of the latter. Most of my political songs have relatively short shelf life because of the subject matter. This one is likely to be current for a much longer time.
I think it turned out pretty well.
