Frank, the double bass player for our Saturday jam at Maples, recently purchased a Kala ubass to play at the jam.  I’ve really liked the sound that he produces with it, so i started looking into getting a bass ukulele to play with Aspiration.  I found a Hadean 23″ scale, a cheap Chinese-made Zebra wood laminate instrument.  The Hadeans have been reviewed favorably on the Ukulele Underground Forum, and the 23″ scale version was even on sale ($125), so i ordered one, along with some Aquila Thunderbrown polyurethane strings, which have been very highly reviewed on the internet.  The combination sounds very good, similar to an upright bass to my not-very-well-trained ears.  I think it works better with Aspiration, and the very short scale allows me to explore some other playing techniques that were difficult with the 30″ Bass VI scale.

I damaged one of the tuners when putting on the Thunderbrowns, but a guy on the UU Forum offered me a free set (he has replaced all the cheap tuners on his Hadeans with Gotoh tuners).  So, after replacing the broken one, and going through a couple of weeks worth of stretching the strings, i’m good to go.  Recently, i even found a quality gig bag that fits it very well.  It has a couple of pockets that will hold my small portable instrument stand and my computer(where my repertoire resides), so my equipment is easier to carry.  I’m pretty happy with my bass setup.

So now, my Schecter Hellcat Bass VI is for sale.
