Twang

After a brief exploration of 4-string instruments (tenor guitar, tenor banjo, tenor ukulele), i sold several of them. After i sold the Martin 0-18T, i bought a Deering B6 (Boston) 6-string banjo. I decided to try a re-entrant tuning on it (eaDGBE). With nickel plated strings, it sounds particularly twangy — hence the name Twang.

While i was waiting for the nickel plated strings to arrive, i tried out a set of light phosphor bronze guitar strings on it. I was pleased with my ability to play it using my guitar skills (particularly alternating base with finger patterns), and was surprised by how many songs of my repertoire sounded good on it.

With the re-entrant strings and tuning, it definitely has a banjo quality, but with the advantage of my being able to play it like a guitar.

P.S.  During another “pare down” period, i sold Twang, because i just wasn’t playing him enough.  It’s one of the instruments that i have some regret in selling, but i really do not feel comfortable having instruments (or other things) that i don’t use, when someone else might happily and productively use them.
