The SCOTUS Six

I have really been disgusted with a number of the recent decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). The six conservative members, who deem themselves “Originalists”, seem to have a theoretical fixation that they follow, regardless of the practical consequences of their actions.  Of course, they are often hypocritical in their application of these views.  I particularly find troublesome their decisions based on the presumption that corporations should have the same constitutional rights as people. (Where is the evidence that the founders thought that?)

Furthermore, at least two of them think ethical judicial behavior does not apply to them.  Hence this song.

Once i had decided on the title, the first draft of the lyrics took me about two hours one Tuesday. Since it was the last Tuesday before Barry and Barbara took off for their usual Canadian visit, and the subject was time-limited, i decided to read the draft at the Dispensary.

During the following week i began searching for a melody.  Early on i had the melody of “Union Maid” running around in my head for what was originally the chorus of the song.  When i finally settled on that, i added a line with an internal rhyme and a final line to make it sing more freely.  I tested out several things for the verse melody, but none satisfied me as much as the chorus.  In the end i decided to add similar lines to all of the original verses and use the chorus as the first and last verse.  With some tweaking, i think it turned out pretty well.

In mid-August, i decided to add a chorus, using the melody of the “Union Maid” chorus.  This can be seen via the Lyrics link below.  However, i have not yet updated the audio.
