For several years each winter, near solstice, Jane and i hosted a winter singalong. In preparing for the first year of this singalong, i put together lyrics and chords for a couple of dozen Christmas and seasonal songs. I didn’t think i had enough secular songs, so i determined to write one. I chose the melody of “The Happy Wanderer” because it is one of Jane’s favorite songs to sing. The lyrics were inspired by the photos of winter scenes by Al Petteway and Amy White that i’d seen at the Swannanoa Solstice, one of the seasonal events that is regular part of Jane’s and my holiday.
I’m proud of my lyrics; unfortunately, i don’t get to sing the song very often because of its seasonal nature.
