The Door to Summer

Nearly ten years ago i read a science fiction novel by Robert Heinlein whose title is The Door into Summer.  I remembered almost nothing about the novel, except the title and first scene of a cat wandering around asking to be let out, at each of (i think) seven doors in the house, expecting one of them to lead it to a warm, sunny day outside.  It was such an interesting idea that it has stuck with me all this time, even though the novel hasn’t.  Finally, i have written a song about that idea.  (I recently reread the novel, and quite enjoyed it.)

The song was written about our common anticipation of the coming of spring after a long winter.  However, in retrospect, it can also be viewed as a metaphor for our desire get the coronavirus crisis behind us.  It is the fourth of four songs that i wrote in a period of about six weeks, starting at the end of 2019 — an unusual rate of productivity for me.  The other three are a parodylan, a humorous song, and a political song.  I think i like this one the best.
