Music at Maples

With the advent of Covid, i started playing on Saturday morning in the parking area outside of Maples Cafe. Soon i was joined by several other people and the Micaville Jam was revived.  In the fall we had to find an indoor place to play, doing so for a while in the cidery on the opposite side of the building that housed Maples.  When Kari decided to stop hosting concerts on the OAAK Gallery deck, i began to think about taking over the Micaville Music concert series myself.  About the same time Susan Scoggins told me that she was interested in hosting music at Maples.  So we revived Micaville Music as Music at Maples and began having twice-monthly Thursday evening events  and the Saturday jam in Maples.

We did this for several years.  We were able to supplement Maples’ income from our concerts and themed events, so it was a win-win-win for all.  Then came Helene.  Maples was flooded, and would not reopen.  Our Micaville Music events were revived in the side rooms of the Burnsville Town Center, and the Saturday Jam eventually ended up at the First Presbyterian Church in Burnsville, supplemented by Reconciliation House.

After a year or so of concerts in the Town Center, we (i had been joined by Susan Garriques) changed the name of Micaville Music to Toe River Music.  This song, although not outstanding lyrically, recounts some of this history.
