Knocking on the Bathroom Door

At one of the Micaville jams, a couple of weeks before BobFest, our annual celebration of Bob Dylan’s birthday, someone sang and played Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”.  When it was finished, Steve Barnes, who was sitting near me, casually said “Knocking on the Bathroom Door”.  That phrase stuck in my mind, and i began thinking of writing a parody.  On the following Wednesday at Maples i wrote out the lyrics.  I later sang it for Bruce Koran, who suggested that i replace the last oo-oo-oo with uh-uh-uh, which completed the song.  I asked Bruce and David Wiseman to join me in performing it at the second annual BobFest because each of the three verses corresponds to a different malady that could take one to the bathroom, and it’s unlikely that one person would suffer from all three in a short space of time.

I used the label “Parody(lan)” for the item on the BobFest schedule.  Since then i have written a parody for each of our BobFests, as well as a couple of others; i now term them parodylans.
