I was lying awake in bed one night, and it occurred to me that it would be interesting to get ChatGPT to write a parody of a Dylan song. I had been thinking that my next parodylan would be based on “I Shall Be Released”, so i gave ChatGPT the instructions to write a parody based on that song, with the above title. The only other instruction i gave was that it was to be about a pitcher who was about to be removed from a baseball game.
What came back was interesting, though not very good. Nevertheless, it had a couple of novel ideas and some pretty good rhymes. I used about 25% of it, including most of the first verse and two lines of the second, with some significant tweaking. I totally replaced the chorus, falling back on Dylan’s for guidance. The later verses are mostly my own. The final result can be seen via the Lyrics link below. For comparison, the second page of the lyrics is what ChatGPT came up with.
I wrote it in the early summer, so it wasn’t specifically intended for a BobFest. However, i guess i’ll use it for BobFest XI, coming in May 2024.
