I’ve been working on Paul Simon’s “Kathy’s Song” in order to sing it and tell my story about it for our September “Favorite Songs” themed music event at Maples. Thus i was brought back to my first two years at Louisiana Tech, when Jane and i were separated for extended periods of time. It was then the idea of referring to a crescent moon as a Cheshire Cat Moon came to me. I even wrote a bad poem about that at the time (though i don’t think i actually used that terminology in it).
Anyhow, those memories led to this song, which turns out to be my 50th. As usual, i’m happy with the lyrics (as they describe pretty accurately an aspect of that time in my life) but not so much with the melody.
P.S. After singing it for a while, and polishing the melody, i’m now pretty satisfied with it.
