Thursday at the Carriage House is BBQ night, with rib & brisket specials smoked in-house, in addition to the regular menu.” [Jane and i caught their music while enjoying the excellent ribs; we were very impressed.]

A handful of local musicians each sing a couple of originals or covers, followed by Barry Stagg and Friends performing Barry’s originals.

Thursday, May 23 – BobFest 2024, 6:00p~8:30p. Micaville Presbyterian Church, Micaville Loop. In this 11th edition of our annual tribute to Bob Dylan, about a dozen and a half local musicians will sing a couple dozen of his songs. The program for the event, including lyrics for many of the songs to be sung, will be online starting in mid-May. Sponsored by Music at Maples. Tuesday, May 28 – Toe River Chamber Ensemble, 7:30p-??. First Baptist Church, Burnsville. Free annual spring concert of the Ensemble, currently comprising 25-30 players. The program includes Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “English Folk Song Suite” and “Overture to the Wasps”, and Camille Saint-Saens’ “Bachanale” and “Dance of the Gypsy”. Other selections include “Overture to Die Fledermaus” by Johann Straus II, “Dance of the Tumblers” by Rimsky-Korsakov, Beethoven’s “Coriolan Overture”, and the five part movement, “Sketches from South Toe” by local Burnsville composer and musician Bill Wilkes.

Thursday, June 13 – Kirk Banner & Susan Scoggins, 6:00p-8:00p. Maples Coffee House and Bakery, Micaville Loop, 828-337-4354. One of our most popular duos from last year’s Music at Maples concert series returns with their gorgeous voices and Kirk’s superb guitar work. Come early to insure a seat. Of course, Maples will offer light supper items and luscious treats. Come out and support our local music series in Micaville. Admission by sliding scale, $5-$10.

Friday, June 21 – Hard Times, High Hopes, & Helping Hands, 6:30p-9:00p.. Burnsville Town Center. An impressive line up of musicians will play for the 10th anniversary of this annual benefit concert for Reconciliation House. Saturday, June 22 – The Blue Ridge Storytelling Summit. Center for Pioneer Life, 134 Joe Young Rd., Burnsville. “Featuring Connie Regan-Blake, and a workshop on how to tell historical stories by Sherry Lovett and Nancy Reeder.
